Judge rules Hotel Donaldson not guilty in a civil case

Fargo, North Dakota – In a civil lawsuit involving a violent fight outside its doors, the Hotel Donaldson in downtown Fargo was found not guilty.
Jamie Grant, Christopher Sang, and Darren Patterson were involved in a fight in May of 2017. Darren Patterson was found guilty of killing Jamie Grant with a punch.
Grant died nine days later, while Sang had a severe brain injury as a result of the fight.
Sang and Grant’s wife sued the HoDo for $2.5 million, claiming that the bar’s employees should have known the three men would fight after being forced out. The HoDo’s employees would have no control over anyone outside of its doors, according to a witness, and they did the right thing.
This verdict means the hotel will not have to pay anything to the plaintiffs.
