Guard members from Wahpeton return from an operation along the southern border

Wahpeton, North Dakota – Following a 30-day assignment in support of Operation Lone Star, a collaborative effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Military Department, over 100 members of the Wahpeton-based 188th Engineer Company have just returned. The group was stationed along the US-Mexico border.
In response to a request from Texas Governor Greg Abbott for states to send their available resources to battle criminal activities at the border and guarantee the safety and security of all Americans, Governor Doug Burgum deployed the 188th Engineer Company.
About 125 personnel of the 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation Regiment from the North Dakota National Guard continue to serve on a federal basis along the southwest border in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They are equipped with UH-72A Lakota helicopters.
Following the return of 125 soldiers of the Multi-Role Bridge Company of the 957th Engineer Company, the one-year deployment started in October 2022.
