Since last year, North Dakota gas prices have climbed by 55%

North Dakota — The American Automobile Association reports that during the first two weeks of May, the national average price for a gallon of normal gasoline consistently set new records. Over 60 million people in the US and Canada are members of AAA, a privately held non-profit national member association and service organization. According to a national assessment on petrol prices conducted by AAA, nearly all states will have passed the $4 per gallon mark by May 16, 2022.

On a personal level, gas price fluctuations—up 30.8% a gallon in the U.S. from a year ago—are noticeable, but they are frequently impacted by unexpected events and significant policy changes in both the nation and the rest of the world. Price increases may occur very quickly after natural catastrophes like hurricanes that close refineries along the Gulf of Mexico, where about half of the crude oil handled in the United States is refined. Military confrontations involving oil-producing nations can also have an international impact, as was the case during the First Gulf War with Iraq in 1990–1991 or with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

The most important factor affecting gas prices in the nation is the price of crude oil, which is determined by global supply and demand. Currently, rising gas prices are a result of a number of factors, including high seasonal demand, recovering travel after COVID-19 travel limitations, weak local production, and international sanctions against Russia—a major player in the world oil market.
