North Dakota vaccination rates beginning to plateau as active COVID-19 cases rise

BISMARCK — Following are the North Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Thursday, April 29. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

  • NEW CASES: 146
  • TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 1,097
  • TOTAL CASES: 107,298
  • TOTAL RECOVERED: 104,710
  • DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 4.1%

North Dakota’s active case count increased by 18 on Thursday. Cass County, which includes Fargo, saw 37 new cases, bringing its active case count to 258. Burleigh County, which includes Bismarck, saw 21 new cases and has 156 active cases. The two-week rolling average positivity rate is 4.4%.

Hospitalizations, deaths

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 34
  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 5
  • TOTAL DEATHS: 1,491

The state reported five deaths from COVID-19, including a Burleigh County man in his 70s, a Morton County man in his 50s, a Morton County man in his 90s, a Sargent County man in his 60s and a Sioux County man in his 50s. Hospitalizations dropped by three over the previous day.

Vaccinations

  • FIRST DOSE ADMINISTERED: 277,048 (47.2% of population)
  • FULL VACCINE COVERAGE: 242,058 (41.2% of population)

Vaccination rates have begun to plateau with many younger residents having turned down the shot to this point. The health department urges residents to seek more information at www.health.nd.gov/covidvaccinelocator.
