Grand Forks, North Dakota – It has been decided that a Fargo man who is charged with attempted murder in Grand Forks is competent to face trial.

During an August altercation, Makai Summers, then 19 years old, stabbed Allen Torrey Jr. in the chest, according to the police.

Torrey had to have surgery because the incident left him with serious injuries. After being taken into custody, Summers was accused of aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Concerns regarding his mental health led to his commitment to the North Dakota State Hospital for evaluation in October.

The preliminary hearing for Summers is scheduled for January 8.
