Fargo, North Dakota – A man of Fargo faces 30 years in prison after being accused of driving across the country to have sex with a minor.

On Monday morning Christopher J. Brereton, 34, pleaded guilty to traveling across the country with intention to have illicit sexual conduct.

Brereton began communicating online with a girl who had an internet profile saying she was 18 in February 2020, according to court records and allegations made in court. Investigators got authorization to take over the girl’s account in February 2020, and the officer notified Brereton of the girl’s real age of 15 in an undercover role. Brereton continued to communicate with the girl, suggesting that they engage in sexual behavior. According to documents, Brereton also planned to drive to Connecticut to meet her for sex.

According to documents, Brereton started travelling from North Dakota on March 12, 2020, and arrived at a motel in Connecticut the next day. Brereton unpacked lingerie and sex toys in the hotel. New Haven Police apprehended Brereton later that day.
