COVID-19 cases inch upward in North Dakota as vaccine rollout chugs forward
BISMARCK — Following are the North Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Wednesday, March 24. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.
Statewide case rates
- NEW CASES: 142
- TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 794
- TOTAL CASES: 102,001
- TOTAL RECOVERED: 99,743
- DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 3.67%
North Dakota’s active case count increased by 49 on Tuesday. Cass County, which includes Fargo, reported 70 new cases and has 44% of the state’s active cases. More than 68% of North Dakota’s active infections are concentrated in its four largest metro areas: Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks and Minot. The two-week rolling average positivity rate is 3.3%.
Hospitalizations, deaths

- TOTAL DEATHS: 1,464
The Department of Health on Wednesday reported the death of one Ward County woman in her 80s.
Vaccinations
- FIRST DOSE ADMINISTERED: 209,669 (36.1% of population)
- COMPLETED SERIES (2 DOSES): 126,432 (21.8% of population)
North Dakota continues to be a national leader in vaccine distribution, with more than 348,000 shots administered. Last week, the health department announced that it will open up vaccine eligibility to all North Dakota adults on March 29.
