North Dakota continues to see an increase in identity theft cases

Bismarck, North Dakota – North Dakotan identity theft has significantly increased, according to state officials.
The number of identity theft cases in the state increased from 448 in 2018 to 848 in 2021, according to the Federal Trade Commission. State officials predict that number to be higher even though data from last year has not yet been released.
An FTC spokeswoman claims that a parallel rise in online purchasing is to blame for the ongoing rise in identity theft cases.
Online buyers should take precautions to ensure that they are transacting on a secure website that displays a padlock icon next to the web address, according to authorities.
