Grand Forks hosts an annual all-female air race
Grand Forks, North Dakota – The annual Air Race Classic for women will launch from Grand Forks International Airport for the first time in its 46-year history.
Next Tuesday, 42 teams and 100 racers will depart from the airport in Grand Forks to begin the 12-state tournament, which will end that Friday in Miami.
More than 40 planes will start taking off for the race at intervals of 30 seconds at 8 a.m.
The public is welcome to attend this event, which should continue for about 45 minutes.
Instead of competing against one another, teams are racing against their best times. This levels the playing field and makes it possible for slower planes to compete against quicker ones on an equal footing.
A number of unusual events will be held in the days prior to the race to pique interest in it.
