Minot, North Dakota – There is more to do than just wait for the Christmas tree, so downtown Minot is preparing for a crowd of people for their infamous tree lighting.

In addition to the much-anticipated lighting of the Christmas tree, businesses will provide discounts to those in attendance.

Outside the Taube Museum, Santa will be handing children cookies, while other downtown businesses will be offering discounts, giveaways, and hot chocolate. This custom offers the community a chance to unite and has been around for a long time.

“Sometimes it’s been really cold, but people still come out, they just love the comradery, they love the family spirit, they love seeing the Christmas tree lit up, and it’s just such a good nostalgic feeling to it,” said the owner of Gourmet Chef kitchen appliance store Denise Lindbo.

The Christmas Open House festivities began at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 25, and will last until 8 p.m.
