Minot Airport wants to make runways safer by reducing wetlands around them

Minot, North Dakota – A wildlife mitigation project is underway at Minot International Airport to deter birds and ducks and improve safety during takeoff and landing.
There are wetlands close to the airport’s runways, according to director Jennifer Eckman, and the airport is looking into installing a drainage system.
To counteract their mitigation, she claimed, the airport bought wetland areas distant from the runways.
The projected $6 million cost is covered by a variety of federal funds, with the city contributing roughly 5% of the total.
