Firefighter honored for saving lives during an accident in Bismarck

Bismarck, North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol recognized a guy who works for both the Burleigh Rural Fire Department and the Bismarck Fire Department for his lifesaving actions after a crash that happened on June 28 in Bismarck.
Three people and one child were badly hurt in a two-vehicle collision at around 8:15 that morning on Centennial Road close to Knudsen Avenue. Off duty, Brandon Hass was nearby driving. According to the NDHP, Hass made sure the collision was reported and then, after evaluating the situation, gave clear instructions on how to help individuals who were there.
According to the Highway Patrol, one of the automobiles, which was occupied by the other two people, caught fire as Hass was attending to two of the injured victims. Hass removed the two injured men from the blazing car and moved them away. According to NDHP, Hass remained to care for the patients after first responders arrived and helped load them into the ambulances.
Hass was nominated by Trooper Shawn Fulwider for the Colonel’s Award for Excellence, which is given to NDHP workers and residents for deeds that have benefited the NDHP and the State of North Dakota.
