Arrests made in connection with murder on Red Lake Indian Reservation

Red Lake Indian Reservation, Minnesota – In connection with a homicide on Minnesota’s Red Lake Indian Reservation, two women have been apprehended and charged. Acting U.S. Attorney Charles Kovats has filed charges against the two, including one count of second-degree murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
On August 12th, 2019, the alleged crime was committed.
According to court filings, Alexia Gah Gi Gay Mary Cutbank and Mia Faye Sumner, both 20, killed victim “D.A.J.” with the help of others. Cutbank and Sumner also shot and injured the victim, “T.B.S.”
Cutbank and Sumner made their first court appearances before Magistrate Judge Katherine M. Menendez on Friday, December 10th. The two were ordered detained pending a formal detention hearing on December 15th, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.
